IF I SEE ANYONE IN COSTUME I WILL KILL YOU!
SERIOUSLY, I will....
Just so tired of the FANamie, con crowd I could scream.
It distracts from the show and I will call you out on it!

Just had to get that out, going in costume is starting to make CATS fans the laughingstock of the musical theatre crowd! Just read a very negative review about fans in costume and it really hit home with me. |

I know for a fact at least two CCDB-ers are going in costume.
Do you have a link to the review? I'd love to pass it along. |

To examine one face of the coin, during a cosplay I witnessed first-hand, I saw that CATS "the show" got FREE advertising from the people wearing CATS costumes. When people asked for pictures, they were told that the Show was in town and that they should go see it. The SHOW did not lose money that way because the cosplay was voluntary - no one was paid by Troika or CAT's EYES LLC. Second, people who cosplay GET NOTICED by more than just the other fans and people around the show. Many times, the PERFORMERS are not only flattered by the imitation, but also are impressed by the time and trouble to make the costume, get into wig and make-up and go out in public.
To flip the coin, the main problem with cosplay - especially when goes to the venue of the show - is the RIGHT to wear the costume. Performers go through literally hell to audition for a part in the show. They have to somehow get by dozens to hundreds of other performers to get the part, and then they have to maintain their health to KEEP the part. And CATS is NOT an easy show to do. As we know, CATS is dance-intensive and the roles are required to move in an unnatural way - like cats! And then there is the eight performances a week... And then, they see someone wearing THEIR costume getting attention and NOT having to go through the dreck they did... The Company sees copyright infringement as well as possibly getting credit for the part... The Venue sees a disruptive presence...
On the third turn of the coin, how much different is the Fan who wears a favorite sports team hat or jersey or uniform? By wearing any part of the uniform, they show their loyalty to the team and even the player, and their love of the game. They did not earn that jersey/uniform, or the right to wear it... And then there are people right on (inter)national TV looking like something out of Halloween wearing team colors and symbols, and no one has told them to get out of the stands...
And do not get me started on Star Trek fans...
Loyal Fan or extroverted nut case...??? A lot of it depends on the viewpoint of the observer. The cosplayer has already made their statement that they enjoy the show so much that they want to show it - even if they fall into the same category as a street mime...

| I saw the update for Troika cats and there and the 26th is also being played in Washinton state. I hope that these dates are right. That is only one I see so far for CA. There was suppost to be one for some where in Pasadena but, it's been taken down. |

Thank you for letting me know Troika actually UPDATED their itinerary.
As a result, I found 9 new confirmed dates.
The Bellingham WA date IS NOT CONFIRMED - San Bernardino CA IS CONFIRMED...

Hmm...I say as long as it's not distracting, go for it. Some facepaint or warmers would pay homage and show your loyalty without being ridiculous.
As a Star Trek fanatic myself who will be going to a con in costume, I can say that for us fans it is great to walk around in pointy ears, or ridges, maybe some complete green body paint, even talking(or singing) in what sounds like nonsensical mumbo-jumbo and randomly putting your hands on someone's face and mumble stuff without looking like a complete loon is one of the greatest joys on Earth. One that the CATS fans don't get to enjoy.
There should be a CATS convention. Where everyone can show up in their spandex and mewl songs to their heart's content while bounding through the halls like a giddy little kitten.
But yeah, if most people aren't doing it; then it's very weird, uncool and distracting. |

| Last time I went to the show there dressed up a girl wanted my picture. Since I want to go as my OC I think that will be ok. Tickets haven't moved. The best seats are for Wednesday. I will let you know whne I get one. I might have to have something replaced on my car |

CONs are a totally different, er, 'animal' when it comes to costumes. At things like a FURCON, you are the odd person out if you are NOT in costume. What started the thread is wearing a "show" costume to a show. If you were to wear a Star Trek uniform to Paramount Studios when they film Star Trek, this would be similar to wearing lycra to CATS.
I have seen both sides of the issue. Cast members coming out into the audience to "sniff" you over - wondering why a member of the Tribe is 'outside' and looking you over at the stage door when they come out. And then others will snub you, and ushers and company people will act like like Nazguls...
I think jellylorum is a little more PC when it comes to wearing a costume that is NOT shown on the stage or in the company. For example, if I were able to construct a costume, I would tempted to make Rumblepurr - a white tiger calico with an orange eye-patch around my right eye, a GREEN vest to differentiate my character from Skimble, and the Pince-Nez that is a trademark of my OC. Although I would be considered a CATS Character, I am NOT an obvious member of the cast...
Respectfully submitted,

| OCs I say are okay. As long as they can tell you're not part of the cast. But something like, idk, 'Macavity's Daughter' would probably not be a good idea. :) |
